Issaquah is a suburban city located in King County. Nestled in between four different state parks (it is south of Lake Sammamish State Park, north of Squak Mountain State Park, west of Cougar Mountain State Park and east of Tiger Mountain State Forest), Issaquah is a city with a forested atmosphere. It is just south of Interstate I-90 and east of highway 900, which runs through Renton. The city is home to just over 26,000 residents and is one of the fastest growing areas in the Northwest. Issaquah is served by the Issaquah Public School District, which includes five high schools, four middle schools and 14 elementary schools. Issaquah’s size has allowed for a variety of residencies, ranging from older and modern homes, apartments and condominiums. Issaquah has also has an array of organized and recreational activities for residents to enjoy.
Although Issaquah is not technically a small town, it still has a great sense of community. There are a lot of events that are organized by the city and community members. One of the biggest events of the year is the annual Issaquah Salmon Days Festival. It marks the return of the salmon to the freshwater streams, lakes and rivers of Issaquah. The celebration includes a parade, arts and crafts, live entertainment and, of course, fresh salmon cooked in a variety of different ways. Admission to the event is free, and it is enjoyed by both Issaquah residents and visitors.

For more independent fun, a trip to the Cougar Mountain Zoo is always a good idea. From Lemurs to Tigers, the zoo is sure to have something of interest to you. The zoo is located atop Cougar Mountain, so there are great views of the Cascade Mountains and Lake Sammamish. Issaquah is also home to the Village Theatre, a family theatre that has live shows year round. Issaquah’s main shopping district is called Gilman Village. Since its small beginning, Gilman Village has now grown to include more than 40 unique stores and restaurants. Shoppers can find anything they need here; there’s clothing, furniture, accessories and much more. Leaving Issaquah to visit other locations is also very easy, since it sits in such a central location. Just a few minutes to the west is Seattle and its surrounding entertainment, to the east is the tranquility of Snoqualmie Pass. The Snoqualmie Ski Resort is an excellent spot to head to in the winter months for snow sports. In the summer, the Salish Spa and Resort lies next to the breathtaking Snoqualmie Falls.
