Monroe is a suburban city located about 20 miles southeast of Everett. To the southwest lie Woodinville and Bothell, to the south is Duvall. Monroe sits right off of Highway 2, which heads east over the Cascade Mountain Range via Stevens Pass. It is a part of Snohomish County. With a population of just over 16,000 people, Monroe is a very medium-sized city: large enough to have good business, but small enough so you don’t feel lost in the crowd. It is a part of the Monroe School District and has one high school, three middle schools and five elementary schools. Monroe is surrounded by open and forested space, making it a beautiful place to live. The city’s maintained park allow for ample time to be spent outdoors. Monroe is also very near the foothills of the Cascades, providing for excellent views and also recreation opportunities. All in all, Monroe is a well-rounded city, something that everyone in the family will enjoy.
There are lots of aspects of Monroe that residents get to enjoy. From June to September, Monroe’s Farmers Market is frequented. Here, there is a focus on fresh, locally produced food. Fish, honey, fruits and vegetables, flowers, baked goods and arts and crafts are among the commodities shoppers can find. The Al Borlin Park is one of the most natural parks in Monroe and features 90 acres of green space. The park is on a peninsula created by the Skykomish River, so not surprisingly, it is beautiful. The heavily wooded park makes for excellent walking trails, where wildlife such as squirrels, deer and even bald eagles can be seen. The Al Borlin Park also has fishing areas, picnic tables and barbeques. There are also a number of other parks in the area that serve more of a recreational purpose, with sport courts, play areas and playfields. In the winter months, Monroe residents often zip over to Stevens Pass to ski and snowboard. Monroe is home to the Evergreen State Fair, which comes around at the end of August. Carnival Rides, animals, food and fun provide fun for the entire family. Every year, both Monroe residents along with visitors head to the fairgrounds for some entertainment. Monroe’s large amount of open space, well maintained parks and perfect size make it a great spot to look for a home.
