Mountlake Terrace is a mostly residential city located in Snohomish County. It is about 15 minutes north of Seattle. Lynwood is just north and Edmonds lies to the west. Mountlake was originally built as a residential community for returning World War II veterans and their families. Within a few years, though, Mountlake Terrace grew and became a city of its own, with a working government. Today, Mountlake has become a moderately-sized city with a population of 20,000. Though the city is bigger today than ever before, it still maintains its roots of being family-oriented. Mountlake Terrace is a well-rounded city that offers all the amenities a prospective resident could ask for. The city is divided up into six different neighborhoods, all of which have a mix of homes and apartments. A number of parks and other recreational spots are spread out throughout Mountlake as well. Mountlake Terrace is a part of the Edmonds School District, with six public schools in total. There is also a public library to serve the community. With its quieter suburban feel, Mountlake Terrace has become a well-liked city, especially for young families.

One of the most appealing aspects of Mountlake Terrace is the community itself. Both city officials and the residents make a conscious effort to make Mountlake a comfortable, safe place. There are plenty of opportunities for people to become involved in city-wide groups and committees, or simply attend events that are open to all Mountlake Terrace dwellers. Events include everything from teen movie nights to art exhibits that showcase local artists’ work. Holiday-themed events are also commonplace. For example, there is a Halloween Night for kids at the library, with crafts, treats and of course, a costume contest. There is also an annual tree lighting ceremony in December. Here, the whole family can gather with other community members to enjoy music, sweet treats and a bonfire. If there is a not an event planned in Mountlake, there is still a lot to do. Several parks and recreation facilities are available. The Ballinger Golf Course is a public 9-hole course located in the southwest corner of town. It is the perfect course to catch a quick round of golf on a sunny afternoon or after a long day at work. Mountlake Terrace is home to an indoor swimming pool, unique from many others. Not only is there a large main pool available for lap swim, but also a “lazy river” with a moving current in which to float. A toddler pool with toys sits at one end of the facility. There is also a sauna and spa on the premises. The center does have swimming classes and water fitness classes as well. All of these amenities make the aquatic center a favorite among Mountlake residences. Mountlake Terrace’s focus on family makes it a great place to search for a home.
