Home to nearly 87,000 residents, the city of Kent is the eighth largest city in Washington State. This outlying suburb of Seattle is home to the third largest industrial area in the United States, with well-known corporations such as R.E.I. and Oberto Sausage working within its city limits. However, Kent was not always the bustling industrial city it is today.
Before development in the 1960s, Kent was famous for its fertile soil and abundant farm land. In fact, it was once called the "Lettuce Capitol of the World". Kent has certainly come a long way since its incorporation into King County in May of 1890. Although it is now known for its industrial strength, Kent is also home to an abundance of parks. In fact, Kent is home to nearly 60 parks, ranging from sports fields to walking and biking trails. Some of these parks stretch over 160 acres! Kent is ideally located just minutes from several major freeways.
