Redmond is a suburban city located on the Eastside (meaning east of Lake Washington), just north of State Route 520. It is just north of Lake Sammamish and east of Kirkland. It is in King County and has a population of just over 51,000. Like many of the other Eastside cities such as Bellevue and Kirkland, Redmond is known for its affluence. Redmond is a scenic city, with many of the residential neighborhoods built amongst the natural coniferous trees. Redmond has earned the nickname, "Bicycle Capital" of the Northwest, due to the large number of bike trails, including the 27-mile Burke Gilman Trail, which runs through Redmond. Redmonds affluent reputation is likely credited to the fact that it is home to two major corporations: Microsoft and Nintendo of America. Both of these companies provide a number of jobs both residents and commuters. Redmond is also a reasonable commuting distance to Bellevue and Seattle. Redmond is a part of the Lake Washington Public School District and has one high school, three junior high schools and nine elementary schools. There are also a number of private schools located in Redmond. Its central location, along with all of the recreation and employment opportunities make Redmond an outstanding place to live.
