Tukwila is a suburb of Seattle, located just 12 miles south of downtown. It is a part of King County, the largest county in the state by population. The population is around 18,000 residents. Tukwila is located at the intersection of I-5 and I-405, near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Its accessible location makes Tukwila a Mecca for both real estate and retail. The Tukwila School District is the main school district that serves Tukwila residents. It includes three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. There are also two branches of the King County Library system located within the city limits.
Tukwila has nine neighborhoods, including residential neighborhoods such as Thorndyke and McMicken. Here, home-seekers can find any type of residency, ranging from homes to apartments. One of the most noted projects currently under work in Tukwila is the development of Tukwila Village. The new neighborhood will include space for both retail and residential real estate. Its central location and easy access to a new light-rail station is making Tukwila Village one of the most sought-after Tukwila real estate. Perhaps the most well-known neighborhood in Tukwila is the Southcenter neighborhood, though it is the least residential neighborhood of them all. Southcenter is where the self-titled Southcenter mall is located. The mall, newly remodeled in 2008, features over 240 stores and restaurants. Also added in the remodel is a 16-screen movie theatre. The Southcenter mall is just the beginning of the dining and shopping options in Tukwila. It is simply a centerpiece for the surrounding retail stores and variety of restaurants. Just north of the main shopping district is The Family Fun Center. Here, patrons can find entertainment for the whole family including an arcade, laser tag, mini-golf and bumper boats.
Once you venture outside of the urban neighborhoods of Tukwila, you will likely find yourself amongst the number of parks and trails the city has to offer. Tukwila has a strong community system, which attempts to bring all of the neighborhoods and community members together. For example, the Tukwila Community Center provides a number of programs and activities, such as classes and sports for Tukwila residents of all ages. The community center also has a fitness center and racquetball courts on site. There is also a Tukwila Public Pool that offers organized activities such as classes and teams, but also has open swim times for the general public. Aside from the community facilities, Tukwila Parks and Recreation has made great accommodations to support the citys outdoor space. Parks range from the small and quiet, such as the Cascade View Community Park, which has a serene walking trail and gazebo sitting area, to more recreational, such as Tukwila Park, which has lighted tennis and basketball court and a childs play area. The popular Interurban Trail has 2.4 miles which run through Tukwila from the city of Pacific. Tukwila is home to the Foster Golf Links, an 18-hole golf course which is located on the Duwamish River. The course is not only popular amongst Tukwila residents, but also well known and visited by residents of the Greater Seattle region.
